Album of the Month: Travel ‘n Time - Midge Marsden

Midge Marsden’s 2007 album ‘Travel ‘n Time’, is the first of our SDL series of Albums of the Month.  At the time Liberation Music (Mushroom) was doing a series of acoustic albums in Australia with Artists such as James Reyne, Ross Wilson and Dragon. They commissioned Hammond Gamble, Hello Sailor and Midge to do the same in New Zealand. It was recorded almost live at The Lab in Auckland, featuring Darren Watson, Chet O’Connell, Grant Winterburn, Mike Abbott, Mark Dennison, Pete France and Neil Hannan with some backing vocals from The Lady Killers. The Lab provided a great relaxed space and sound, so it felt like playing a gig rather than recording.

The acoustic sound was a very different direction at the time for Midge and without the electric guitar the album has a very organic sound. It also provided an opportunity to rearrange Burning Rain with the superb backing of the Lady Killers.

Midge recorded a brief video for us to kick off our album of the month.

Check out our Featured Artists page for all of Midge’s back catalogue.
